Written in July 2022, The Land You Left emerged during a season of healing. This 14-poem poetic memoir marks the beginning of a larger story.

That summer, I sat alone in my kitchen with only my laptop and a clear blue sky outside the window. For hours, I wrote without stopping—tears streaming as resurfacing pain poured back into my body and onto the page. The words came faster than I could think, overflowing from my spirit through my fingertips.

But this time, it was different.

I was no longer the lost and broken girl I once was. At twenty-six, I had been saved, and after a two-year healing journey, I was finally ready to release what had been held inside me for so long. With God’s hand guiding me, I was safe to feel it because He had already healed it.

Together, we sat and wrote. Together, we returned to the past and broke off every lie I once believed about myself. As the words took shape, the narratives I had accepted as truth were rewritten as I poured the same love and grace God had showered upon me onto the frightened and broken girl I once knew—and once and for all, I set her free.

The Land You Left was born in that moment. And it is the beginning of everything that followed.
